Apps Help needed!

I work for a school district in NC. I have been talking to the computer programing teacher about trying to have students program small games or apps for cell phones. I know the SDK has an emulator built in, but the students would like to be able to load their app on a device. What kind of device would you recommend I purchase for the classroom that would allow the students to load and run their apps.
