I have a stock 2.2 and a few weeks ago it stopped allowing the pictures or any multimedia download. I receive the text but when i hit download nothing happens. This phone has not been rooted ever.

Sometimes its an issue on Metro's side
Try going into the messaging app itself and clear data and cache and see if corrects itself. Backup your messages first with an app from the GPlay store first-so you don't lose any.

If you are useing ANY third party messaging app on a metroPCS it will not download or upload ANY MMS message.
