Help! Playlists are gone

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and I use the player that came with it. The name shows as "Music". The icon is a blue and white play button with a green music note in front. OS is 4.3 and I store all my music on my SD card.

For the second time all my playlists are gone. Is there any way to get them back? Where are the playlists stored and what are they called so I can back them up?

Really hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance
 
My previous phone, a Note 3 is still on 4.3 and Poweramp is my music player of choice dating back to the OG Droid. The playlists on this phone are in internal storage in a folder simply called Playlists.
I opened up the stock music player and the playlists are listed but they are empty.
I use an app called Playlist Backup that will let you backup playlists both locally and to Dropbox, as well as import playlists.
