Help Help Please! Phone screen stays on when calling

I'm having a problem with my Motorola Droid Razr M. When I make a phone call, the screen should turn off when I have the phone up to my ear. Unfortunately it stays on, so my ear ends up disconnecting half the calls, or pressing all sorts of things that it shouldn't. Did I accidentally turn off a setting somewhere? I looked all through the settings, and couldn't find anything to pertain to that. It started happening after I put a screen protector and decal skin on, so could that have something to to with it?
 
The decal skin could easily be the culprit. The phone has a proximity sensor that may be inhibited from functioning.
In design it detects when your face is near the screen. I would look there first. I hope that's the fix for you.
 
OK, I'll try taking it off. Is it on the front of the phone? Because the skin came in two parts, front and back, and I would like to keep the back on at least if possible.
 
Good luck. Sometimes the sensor... normally located along the top of the phone, will be blocked by a smudge or something similar. It will create the problem you are having.
 
Best way to use a phone, is some sort of Bluetooth device, that is MEANT fo phones. This avoids many issues, as well as microwave radiation exposure concerns. I use a Logitech H800, which is designed for call centres and phones.
