Help help please - slow charger connected

InGearX

in short after trying to use a power bank .. or draining it to 0% .. it just keeps showing
>"slow charger connected"
and NOW fails to charge at all..

what can we do?

this is such unfortunate ongoing issue ..

in short I will not buy Samsung products any more .. from my experience they are just as prone to failure .. but cost more .. warranty is limited only to the country of purchase ..

i got my Tab S2 - SM-T715Y in Thailand 2 months ago as i am backpacking Asia ..
I know the warranty is per country .. so I can not use it where I am now - in Vietnam .. or back home in USA

I did realized that this was a major factor before buying .. I do have an option of going through my credit cards extended warranty ..

in the future I will buy Acer or Asus or alike that have international warranty ..
yesterday I was on a road trip with my Tab S2

and I was using my 12V car charger
and then a battery bank .. and I think it triggered this problem or fact that I drained my S2 to 0% (very bad for LiOn)

fact is that now it is showing "slow charger connected" .. I am using the original charger and original cable .. and I have 2 more original 2A chargers from Note 3 .. tried all with outlets ..

now it is slowly *discharging* when connected to AC!!

again this is so terrible - again I am losing faith in Samsung :/ (had charging issues with my Note 3 .. 8 months in .. motherboard issue)

I can not find a solution to this problem..

will try to wipe the cache.. but it is a hardware issue .. as it fails to charge properly when turned on or off ..

I am thinking of putting it in a refrigerator? maybe it will do something to the battery?

any advice?

thank you ..

I had to bring it to a Samsung official repair center in Vietnam ... they liked me ... one older guy said they can help

but they said if they touch it - it would void the Thai 1 year warranty on it
but I had no choice

they said 3-4 days and might be $50 to change the battery
they opened it and disconnected the battery and reconnected it !

that's all
and that fixed it!

been OK for now

I get the red X over the battery if I try to connect my power bank rated at 2A
yes charger is OEM

I suggest you use the Ampere application to check the charge current. Or buy a $3 charge-meter from Ebay. This piece of hardware causes voltage drop, but it's useful for comparing chargers and cables.

I quickly found out that the slim cable which came with my Tab S2 9.2" is no good for charging. So I use a $13 Usb cable from Anker. Then, I found out that the expensive Belkin charger doesn't provide sufficient voltage for the tablet.

Interestigly, the best charger for the Tab is the one which came with it. I marked with a felt pen the moment I opened the box. That's because I have, like yourself, a Note 3. Also an older Tab 3 8". And an even older Ace 3. The original Samsung chargers all look the same, but differ in their output. For example, the small print and model number are the same for the chargers I got for Note 3 and Ace 3, yet the former is much stronger than the latter.

I presume they pick up the weaker ones coming off the assembly line, and they sell it with smaller phones. This is good practice for the manufacturer. But it creates a grey market for secondary sellers, who end up misleading the public with Samsung chargers marked 2.1Amp. This could well be your case.

In fairness to Samsung, the entire industry got taken in by the attempt to push 2Amps through the tiny contacts of a micro-Usb plug. This was destined to fail, and is coming to an end now.

Guys, the S2 needs to be charged with a cable or charger that shorts the data pins - through a 10 ohm resistor if I'm remembering correctly. Exact details can be found via Google. Easiest solution is to simply use a Samsung charger. All of mine, S6 Edge, Wireless and of course the s2 charger work fine. Most good quality cables will also work fine. Battery banks also work so long as they connect the data pins. Hint, try using your battery banks phone port instead of the high power or tablet port. Works with most of mine. Chances are, there is nothing wrong with your S2!

More info. I took some measurements of the S2 during charge. I used the Samsung power supply that came with the S2. It is capable of supplying up to 2 amps at 5 volts. The tablet used between 500 and 750 milliamps during charge. I then tested an after market supply that does not short the data pins. This causes the S2 to charge at the "slow' rate - red lightning bolt shows on the battery indicator. The max slow charge rate is about 400ma. Hope this helps everyone with S2 charging questions. REMEMBER your best bet is to use a Samsung power supply or a supply that connects the data pins together. This will allow the tablet to charge at its maximum rate.
