Help HELP!... Poor Signal on my Ace...

lcrjames

Newbie
Hi there,

On Monday I bought a Samsung Galaxy Ace (gt-s5830i) here in the UK to replace my Nokia C3-01. I have noticed that my new phone is often loosing signal and then regaining it whilst in my house, outside it is fine! At first I thought it was my network's problem, but my friends are not having problems and the networks website does not report any problems either. I have also put my sim back into my old phone for half an hour and it didnt loose reception once, so it must be my new phone! =(

Does anyone know if the Samsung Galaxy Ace is common for having reception problems indoors?

Thanks,

James.

Also I have just connected my phone to Kies to see if I could find anything to fix it, interestingly it told me there is a firmware update...

My current firmware: PDA:LD3 / PHONE:LD2 / CSC:LC1 (BTU)
and Latest firmware: PDA:LK3 / PHONE:LK1 / CSC:LK1 (BTU)

Im new to all of this (and android phones!), do you think this could sort my problem out by updating? Though the current version should certainly not have my problem I would have thought!!

Also I have noticed the Kies software takes a while to open, and in task manager it has processes running straight after booting up my PC, DESPITE me selecting in the options NOT to pre-load certain files to enable quick start up! Any ideas on how to prevent Kies from running in the background on start up?!

Thanks

Updating the firmware might help but its v iffy. Regarding loading on startup, which OS do you have on your computer? You could install CCleaner (its free) go to start up & deselect the KIES Pldr or a more direct way is
1) In Xp click on the start button -> 'Run', type 'msconfig' (without the quotes) goto startup & deselect the relevant files
2) In Vista/Win 7 click on the start button -> type 'msconfig' in search, click & do the same as mentioned

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I remembered about msconfig this morning and did that!

I would rather not update the firmware I think, in case something went wrong. Any other suggestions?

But remember that every time you start that crappy s/w it will land in startup, so you will have to do the needful all over again. You could try if its available for you via Over The Air but use WiFi not a data option :D

Hi, regarding the signal dropping indoors, do you have the phone on 3G all the time? The 3G signal will come & go (using more battery!), so I usually always have mine on 2G only & just switch on the 3G when I need to browse or send an MMS etc... Also saves loads of battery life :)
