Help recovering Rooted Files

quatrarot

Lurker
I rooted my phone and constantly back it up, one day i accidentally deleted all of my photos. I tried rebooting my phone from an old backup that had them but when i did that I was able to see the photos for a minute but then they disappeared. Is there a way to get the photos back or go into the backup file on my computer and recover them.
Thanks

Welcome to AF!

You can sync them with Picasa, or you can just try rebooting the phone, or going into Settings > Applications > manage apps > Gallery > clear data

Those may help. It's likely a corrupted gallery database but the photos themselves *should* be stored on the SD card.

Yeah, so... here's the thing.
When you create a nandroid backup, it only backs up the system. It doesn't backup the files on your SD card.

If you deleted the photos, they were removed from the SD card, and are likely gone. (You could try recovering them by putting the SD card into a computer and using a photo recovery application - but that isn't guaranteed to work.)

You really need to be backing up your SD card files separately.

Note: The reason you could "see" the photos for a little bit is because the old backup of your system likely had the thumbnail images of the photos cached, but once the SD card was re-scanned and it noticed that the photos were gone, the thumbnails disappeared.
