Help regarding tablets please - Amazon Fire or Nexus 7?

i live in UK
I have a Kobo touch reader which I love.
I bought a Arnova 10b 3G tablet which I have since returned as no Google Play and didnt want to attempt to try to add, as am an oldie lol

I want to buy another tablet (Ipad much too dear for a senior)

Basically I want it for reading ebooks (as well as Kobo) and to browse the internet while I am out mostly

Worried about making a mistake again So desparate for advice here

Please please help. I dont know what to look for:confused:
 
Honestly the Kindle Fire and Nexus 7 are both amazing tablets, its going to be basically what you want. I would recommend the 7 just because i have heard so much amazing things from it and you will not be disappointed.
 
What is the difference?
I dont know how to compare and also there are 2 kindle fire just now available here in uk so that confuses me further lol
 
There are multiple Kindle versions available. Fire, Fire HD, Fire HD 9.8. The Fire HD and HD 9.8 are higher end spec tablets. The N7 is straight from Google, and will run traditional Android. The Fire line do NOT run android. They run android BASED software. You will not have any Google Apps, and it looks different from what you're used to. That can be a good or bad thing.

I enjoy using the original Fire. I am as close to Amazon as I am to Google. As a Amazon Prime member, I like using the Fire to watch movies. I prefer Amazon Cloud player and Kindle over Google's apps. You can't go wrong with either choice here. It's all about personal preference.
 
If you truly are only going to use it for reading E-Books and some web browsing from time to time, either of these will be great! If you are looking for the better between the two overall in the long run...I would go Nexus7 Tablet and here is why...

Performance - The Nexus7 has a Quad Core CPU and a GPU from NVidia. The Kindle is running a fast, but still fairly standard dual core CPU without a separate GPU for graphics/gaming. They both have 1GB of RAM, however the Nexus7's RAM is dual channeled making it MUCH faster at displaying/running multiple applications at once.

Software - They both run Android in some way, shape, or form, yet the Nexus7 Will have access to the Google Play Store. The Kindle (as far as I know) only has access to the Amazon App Store.

There is SO much more I can say, but these two big ones were a HUGE gamebreaker for me when I chose the Nexus7.

I have a HTC Wildfire and access the Internet and Google Apps on it. But I find its to small a screen for me now.
A 7" tablet seems the answer. Leaning towards the Nexus maybe?

Helps a lot Which Nexus? as Usa and Uk are different?

That's not right, both have GPU's intergrated into the SoC, Nexus 7 uses Tegra 3 T30L with ULP GeForce and Amazon Fire uses TI OMAP 4430 with PowerVR SGX540.

Tegra 3's GPU is faster though, even if the one in the Nexus 7 is clocked a bit lower than the Prime/Infinity.

So much info I am well confused. But all great advice thanx. So they both sound great. Which nexus are you comparing? And which kindle fire? As in UK they are different. The kindle fire would be good for cheaper books than my Kobo. But as you say it will not be Google play the same ad my HTC wildfire.

I made a big mistake buying the arnova 10b 3g thats for sure.

Not in shops in uk yet. Only 2 models and only to order at the end of October. Behind over here lol
 
Moved to Device Comparison forum. :)
I haven't used a Fire before (still haven't seen one in stores) but I love my N7. I wouldn't want to be locked into Amazon's store vs having access to nearly all its content on my N7 PLUS the Play Store. Screen does appear to be gorgeous though.
 
All these replies have really helped. May get a Nexus then

But will wait to see the Kindle Fire when it finally gets in the shops over here.
 
Can you tell me though is there any way to start buying Amazon Kindle books and read them on a Nexus 7?

That would be great. As cant read them on my Kobo (have plenty of EPubs on my Kobo but Kindle books are cheaper than Kobo)

Yeah, you just download the Kindle app, just like on a phone.

You can also download the nook and kobo apps, as well as borrow books from libraries and project guttenburg.

Amazon won't let you read anyone else's books on their stuff. That right there is enough that I'm getting the nexus 7 over the fire.

Plus, it just makes sense to me to have my phone and tablet running the same thing.
 
Thanks. Will hint for a nexus7 for my birthday then. So i can download library books thro overdrive to it then? Will I need Adobe digital?
