HELP SAMSUNG GALAXY WON'T LET ME ENTER GALLARY!

HELP!! My Samsung Galaxy ( I believe its an older, slower model; possibly the 2) won't let me access my gallery because there is not enough space. I do not mind permanently deleting these photos. It says to go to my files to delete the pictures in file form to be able to access my gallery but I wanted to know if I go and delete the picture files, do they also delete from my gallery?

The gallery app just displays images that it finds in the folders on your phone, but it also needs to create thumbnail images to display them in the app. This is probably why it's barking at you.

I'd just plug the phone into a PC and copy a bunch of images that you don't want onto your computer for archiving. You can also upload them to your Google Photos account. If you open Google Photos, there's an option called "Free up Storage" which will take the images that are backed up on the cloud and delete them from your phone. As long as you have a data connection you can still view them in photos, but they won't show up in your gallery app..
