Help Help, stuck in dl mode "not the usual problem"

Help, I'm stuck in download mode on Galaxy S, it will not come out doing everything button wise people talk of. I can get it to power off and have the screen go black, however, the only other thing I can do is get it to go into the download screen. I've tried Ogdin to reflash and though it will show connectivity it will not flash the device....stupidly, I told a friend that I could do this for him as I'm used to doing iphone's, but now I really just want to get it back to normal and give it back to him and tell him I'm a tool!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated especially if the person can give me a way to contact them at a quicker pace than through the form....but will do what it takes!!! This is not the simple push the buttons and reboot problem....

Usually pulling out the battery or press+hold the power button for a long time is the key to het out of download mode.

What I understand is that even you get out of download mode, the next time you turn on the device, it again goes into download mode ?

Are you sure it is download mode or the screen shows a "mobile ---- PC" picture which is indication of a previous incomplete firmware flash.

If it is download mode, what does Odin say when it does not flash anything? Any errors ?
