hi guys - got a samsung s8, how can i change the outlook email notification to a custom one ?, for example ive downloaded a msn email notification sound from zedge but i cant see it in the list of standard notifications sounds of the phone.? ta

the custom sound file is downloaded "to the "zedge" folder on my phone, when i move it to notifications it shows up..im using file manager from the app store...i can move it to the "notifications" folder and i can see it there and select it as ringtone....but the notifications for an email are different and when i go to "settings" of outlook com and go to change the default notification "outlook email" sound to my custom one its not listed in the list..hope i make sense..

I usually just connect my device to the computer, and use that to move sounds from my Zedge folder to my phone notification folder. Try that :)
Not saying file app managers don't work, but I find it easier to do it from the computer.

ok gonna try that....didnt work..looks like the notifications for email are different from the normal ringtones notification..

I've installed outlook on my phone also, and it looks like there is no way to change it's mail notifications from its drop down list of sounds.
In that case, it's the outlook app itself that cannot be changed. You can contact the developer and state your case, or install any other email app that has that option. I use Aquamail which has no problem using any sound i choose.

I just opened Outlook mail and went to Settings. I have three mail accounts set up, so I have notification options for each one... and I am able to change the notification sound on all of them (and turn off the 'sent email' sound).

Did you try under media file?

You used to have to put a ringtone and a notification folder under media to get the tones seen in various apps.

The new ones don't like MID format, either. I got my mid files working by using Ringtone maker. I took to using MID as a 4 minute song would only be 40k or thereabouts. Didn't have to worry about cutting it.

Yep.
I've tried and successfully put my existing sounds in the media folder, notification folder, etc...
But only within the outlook app settings for notification sounds, those sounds will not appear no matter what sound format they are, MP3, wav, ogg, etc....
The outlook app is the only app that doesn't give me a choice.
All of the other email apps DO without an issue.

OK, it can be done but the solution is non-obvious (I found it in a Microsoft support post).

Go to Settings > Apps > Outlook and click on permissions. Give it "storage" permission, and then it will see the sound files in your /sdcard/Notifications folder. Without that it will only offer the system notification sounds.

The funny thing is that there are other apps that behave this way, but because I'd given them all Storage access I'd never noticed it.

(I actually uninstalled Outlook a while back, because Nine does everything Outlook did for me and more, making Outlook redundant. But I reinstalled it temporarily in order to make sure that this fix did actually work before posting).

THANK YOU. I just logged in to say thanks. All the other Google results were a bust -- either saying it couldn't be done or telling how to change the INCOMING Outlook email notification, which is easy. It's the SEND email notification that is messed up by Outlook so you cannot easily choose a custom sound.

Yes, I use Nine also and like the swoosh sound, so wanted to give my wife that with her Outlook. Thank you again for taking the time to give us this information!
