Help Uninstall an App

RedArmy49

Hi,

A family relative has the new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. They downloaded this App "WiFi Tether No Root" whether it was off a website or Apptoide, I don't know. Shouldn't really downloading stuff like that in the first place. The app just brings up a load of ads and rude adult content.

They can't uninstall the app, because it says something about Device Administrator. When you go in there and try and deactivate it, it just locks the screen and does nothing. Would appreciate some help please.

Thanks

These kinds of intrusive apps are tricky to remove. They might be able to exploit root permissions enough to install them so they can't be uninstalled, but I would guess it's more likely to restrict uninstall permissions to itself. I would highly recommend a factory reset in this case. It will wipe the user data partition which is mot likely where it installed. Back up the phone cautiously, however, because you don't want to backup the malware, too.

Before trying a reset, which might possibly be your final alternative, do the following: –

Go to Settings/Other security settings/Device administrators.
In the window that opens up, scroll till you come to the name of the app in question and move the slider opposite it to the off position.

Now go back and you should be able to uninstall. Before uninstalling go to Application Manager and tap on the appropriate app and in Storage CLEAR DATA and CLEAR CACHE
.

Please post back if it works. Best of luck

No luck mate, Uninstall button is still grey.
