Help Help-Verizon update 5.0 version BOC4 broke my phone again!

I am coming from KitKat on a Verizon S5.
1. FDRed the phone AND formatted my SD card.
2. Installer 1st VZW update
3. Wiped partician as outlined in dummy guide
4. Installed BOC4 5.0 update
5. Let only the necessary updates install until there were no more (apx. 35 I think). There are NO other apps installed.
6. Set up my email accounts for work
7. Made a few phone calls, life is good...!
8. Activated the VZW Voice Mail service that downloads and translates to text my voice mails.
9. Phone broke!! I cannot access dialer to make a call. Error message says, "Unfortunately contacts have stopped working", though I can access contacts. I just can't use the dialer to make a call. I do seem to be able to make a call to a contact in my contacts list. "Sometimes" I can access the dial pad. When I can, if I hit the "Recent" button and scroll to the bottom of my recent calls, the dial pad will force close and give the same error message.

This happened with the February release as well. The only way to fix the phone was to have VZW send a new one. Samsung even tried flashing new software. Any ideas??

AZgl1500, Thanks for the reply!

I formatted the sd card prior to any upgrades. I did not remove it though. It's hard to imagine that would cause a problem though - would it?

I did FDR the phone prior to any upgrades.

I hadn't thought about using a different dialer. I'll have to give it a try.

Does anyone know if there is any actual fix for this problem? VZW blames it on Google+, which I don't believe. Not to mention, disabling Google+ had no effect on the problem.

yes, the extSDcard must be removed. For some reason, it fouls up the works until the upgrade is finished. Not always, there are exceptions to every rule :)

I can try to remember removing the sd card on my next update. For now, I'm not sure there is much I can do.

My phone seems to be usable. I have seen some sluggishness, but have not made any changes to fix it. I'm not sure I need to. I'm trying to let the update have a chance to level out. My battery life is good! I've had it on most of the day, though with little use. It's almost 9PM and my battery is still at 81%.

For my initial error problem, it has not stopped me from making phone calls again. It seems like things will be okay moving forward. With this said, I can recreate the error on demand by opening the dialer, hitting the recent calls button and scrolling to the bottom of the screen. This will prompt the error and an immediate force close of the dialer app. In my last phone and previous (February) version of the 5.0 software, the problem got progressively worse over time until only 1 out of 3 attempts would allow me to make a call. Needless to say, I'm very nervous about the new Verizon version of the software in my phone. It doesn't seem like anyone has any info on this or suggestions on how to cure the problem?? Is this just a matter of waiting for Verizon to come out with yet another update?? If yes, does anyone have any idea when this might be?

Thanks!

i too am waiting for a "perfected" version of Verizon's 5.0 software.
I want it based on the newest release by Samsung, but that is pure wasted effort thinking that will happen.

so far, I'm still with 4.4.4 and if VZW does not force me to install 5.x it likely will never happen. If it ain't broke, why fix it until it is?
