slavovar

Lurker
My Pdf Reader shuts down upon opening a file. Any file, jpg, pdf, etc.

It happens only to pdf app. Tried uninstalling, cleaned my log files, installed different pdf app.
Same thing.

Would anybody have a clue how to fix it?
Running 6.1.

Thanks a lot for any advice

Please, and Thank you...

Welcome to Android Forums, slavovar!

Since you're getting the same results with different PDF apps, I suspect the problem is related to:
Running 6.1.

Although that's not ancient, it's still pretty old by Android standards. It's possible that the PDF apps you've tried just won't work with such an old version. My advice is to try installing one or two more PDF apps, just to see if the problem persists.

Last gasp effort would be to restore your phone to its factory condition; I'm assuming it came with a PDF app pre-installed, and that should work with a clean reinstall of the phone.. But if you're going to do a factory reset, be sure to save all your important files somewhere else, as resetting the phone will wipe all your data.

The thing is, my friend uninstalled everything google from my phone years ago.
Don't know how, but it starts as slim6.

Maybe all the updates for the apps made them incompatible, I don't want Google crap on my phone.
Thanks for your help

1) Buy a Huawei Mate 30.
2) Buy an Apple iPhone.
3) Import Android phone from China.

I use a great PDF reader from F-Droid called Document Viewer.

It runs on all my devices since Lollipop, even on crappy devices with 1GB.

There are many options to customize, and it is a bit odd to get it to read from the SD card, but well worth the effort in the end.

Well, seeing as how Android is Google's product...the only way to be free of Google crap is to switch to iOS--Apple's locked-down, non-customizable OS.
Well up to a point. You could install a custom ROM built from the AOSP with no Google apps. Technically Google are behind the AOSP project, but that is considered free enough by many privacy advocates. And if you pay attention to what else you install that approach will be freer of tracking crap generally that buying an iPhone would be (the iOS App Store is full of apps which track your every action).

There are plenty of other apps that can read PDFs. If you don't want Adobe crap as well as Google the X-Plore file manager has a PDF viewer, and can be downloaded directly from the developer's website if you want to avoid the Play Store (just type "X-Plore" into Duck and you'll find it). There are several PDF viewers in the F-Droid repository (open source apps, no need for Google to download or install them). And I'm sure a little digging would bring up more options. So this is a soluble problem.

The same thing happened to me, and with the 6.1 as well. I tried a few different apps, uninstalled the default one, installed it again, but to no avail. I ended up deleting all of them after all, and I switched to https://pdfliner.com/ for all my pdf work. I wasn't using my phone for this that much, so I didn't bother to figure out what was wrong, I just use my computer now. However, thanks for clarifying this, now I know what caused the pdf readers not to work, and maybe I'll try to use them again from my phone.
