Help Help with tablet please!

Hello, new here.

I recently turned on my tablet for the first time in a while as I haven't been using it. Now it keeps saying "android.process.media keeps stopping". It's a real pain in the ya know because it literally does it like every 5 or 10 seconds. So I though I would just factory reset it. I went to back up my photos and videos and they were not there! I know I did not delete them and know one else uses it. I tried taking a picture with it and it took the picture, but it is not there either! There is not SD card in it and it did not save to Google Photos.

So two problems,
#1 is It keeps saying "android.process.media keeps stopping".
And #2 there are no pictures on it and wont save pictures (or videos).

Please Help!!
Thanks in advance!

I think the two are related. Can you clear data and cache for android.process.media, reboot, and see if that helps.

It may be a little frustrating clearing the error message, but stick with it.
Go into settings | apps | all and scroll down until you see android.process.media. Tap that and you should see the clear data and clear cache buttons. If the buttons aren't right on the front, you may need to tap on "Storage."

Mind you, different versions of Android and different manufacturers organize the settings menus a little differently and use slightly different names (e.g. apps vs. application manager) but the fix will pretty much do the same thing.

Thanks. I don't see that in the list of all apps.

It's a system app, so it should be there. It may be using a friendly name. Look for something like Media storage (don't worry, this isn't where you media is stored, just what manages it).

Yeah I don't see that. I would take a screenshot of all my apps but its not working lol
I did a bit of googling and it appears that Media Storage is the culprit. I did see someone get by it by clearing Google Play Services. It's a longshot, but could work.

Oh I had to go to the three dot menu at the top right and tap "show system apps".

I cleared the data on "Media Storage" and disabled it and Forced stop and re enabled it...

... But still says the error and no pictures or videos in the gallery. :(

Yes, If I understand what you mean correctly, then yes, it does.
So that is listed separately from Media Downloads If so, that's where you need to clear data and cache. Most of the time, clearing cache on the package that raises the error solves the problem. Sometimes it is hard to identify and locate exactly which package it is. :goofydroid:

Oh, no there is no app that is called android.process.media listed separately from Media Downloads. If I could just get my photos back I would be happy, because then I would save them to my computer and factory reset my tablet.

Do you have a file manager app? It's possible you can't see them via a media app, but you may be able to copy the files of with a file manager. Another thought is to install and see if Google Photos will work. If that opens you can set it to automatically back up your photos and videos to the cloud.

Yeah I have file manager, but they are not there. I have Google Photos installed but don't think they are backed up.

They may be gone then. :( I just wish I know a way to know for sure before you do the factory reset.

What android version? I only have an old S3 to look at. I can peek at my wife's Galaxy Tab 4 8 inch when I get home to see specifically where the images are stored and how they show up .
