Help Help with tabs on chrome on lollipop

How do I get chrome on my phone to show tabs again?
Since I updated to lollipop they have all gone.
However on my Nexus 7 (2012) they are still there.

By default Chrome no longer shows tabs in the app. Tabs are now in the 'card file' aka recently used apps. Tap the Recent button and flip through the cards.

Doesn't seem handy to me. The upside is that the cards stay in there even through a reboot.

BUT...you can fix it very easily, that's just the new default behavior. To move tabs back into Chrome as before, go to Settings > Merge tabs and apps and change it from on to off.

Changed it.
Thank you I would never have found that!
Strange that it didn't change then on my nexus 7.

That's actually by design. The tablet's larger screen size means that the tabs can be listed at the top of the screen without a huge impact to the browsable space. Moving the tabs into the Recents interface means that the web page can take up more space on a smaller display (like on a phone).

So can you also tell me how I can just have a blank google search page as my homepage
Without any boxes showing the sites I last viewed?
