Help with Tasker!

Hey!

I've set up several nice profiles for tasker, and most of them seem to work.
But I want to make a time AND location based one for when I'm at class.

So I've set it up with DAY first, chosing all weekdays, then I've set TIME for the hours I can have class, and finally I have set a location for where the Uni is.

The other day I was at home, not having a class, and I could see the GPS trying frantically to get a fix for tasker inside the building here, and after a while it stopped and activated the profile, even though I'm not at the university.

Then I tried disabling GPS so it only uses the network, and I just had a look and it had activated the profile even though I'm not at the specified location...

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

GPS is sometimes difficult to use since the phone can't pickup GPS signals inside buildings and stuff.

So, in cases like yours, I would use the Tasker Profile State for 'Calendar Entry'. Using Calendar Entry, you first setup a repeating calendar event for all the days you have class with the same 'location' entry like say 'In Class'. Then in Tasker, you setup the Calendar Event State Profile to match for example the 'location' field, 'In Class'. Then setup the Tasker tasks to do what you want them to like muting or silence or whatever. If you don't go to class that day, simply delete the one calendar event (not the series) and the Tasker State Profile won't fire for that day.

I have multiple calendars, and use the 'busy' calendar indicator to fire my Tasker Calendar State Profile which is just set to 'available NO' to run tasks that silence the phone. It's simply great knowing that all I have to do is set any calendar entry to 'busy' so that Tasker will automatically silence my phone during that event.

Thanks! I've applied this to my work schedule, but having to set busy or not busy isn't much easier than noticing it's on silent, and reactivating sound.

So thanks a lot for introducing me to this particular way of doing things, but I'd still like to know if there's a way to use location, even without GPS, for what I wanted :)

It's just GPS needs line of sight to the satty's to work so buildings. Even overpasses obstruct reception on Satty radio when sitting under an overpass in traffic.

Without GPS, the only location information the phone can receive is from the Cell Tower.

I definitely need to try that near wifi state.

Ive been using tasker to turn my phone to vibrate when im on campus, but the delay it takes to locate me sometimes makes it buggy.

Unfortunately only have a few days left to try it, but fortunately thats cause im almost done with school...Graduating.

love the possibilities of tasker, just done have a tremendous use for it at this point.
