Help Help with using my new phone

Can anyone tell me:

1: The phone only makes a noise once when i get a text message through. How can i change it so I get notified every 2 mins or so for that text message until I read it.

2: How do i turn applications off so they are not running in the back ground? or do I have to just press the home button in the middle?

1. Not sure you can with the stock app unfrotunately, you might want to try SMS Popup, which just handles the notifications, or an alternative SMS app, like GoSMS/Handcent.

2. You don't Just let Android handle task management, if you start killing stuff yourself, it can actually have a negative impact on battery life. There's some info and another thread here: http://androidforums.com/htc-one-x/532012-taskmanager.html
