How can I tell if I am running ginger bread or a different system?

How can I tell if my phone is rooted?

I just had metro flash my phone from sprint to metro...

Should I root? What are the benefits ? what are risks?

Anything else I should do to my phone?

I also have to types of messengers now..Metro messenger and my old standerd messenger.. I would like to keep my old messenger and do away with the other.. I still get messages in my old one but no notifications..The metro messenger sucks..

Go to settings and scroll all the way to the bottom to About Phone. There should be a box that says Android Version.
2.x.x is Gingerbread, 4.0.x is Ice Cream Sandwich, and 4.1.x and 4.2.x is Jellybean

Is there anything in particular that you want to do? The amount customization for Android is immense.

If you root your phone, you can download Titanium Backup or ROM Toolbox and uninstall/freeze system apps.
