Hero and Copilot download problem

I am trying to download CoPilot to my new HTC Hero/T Mobile G2 Touch. I get to the part where I enter the Google checkout number then I am told the machine/programme unable to cnnect to the internet. The phone is connected to WiFi and GPS.

I can connect to the internet for e-mail and websites.

I am at a lost and ALK do not answer questions (or not fast anyway). Can anybody help a Hero virgin?

if you have paid for it but for some reason it wont let you work it, download it via a torrent and put it on your phone with a file manager
