Hi, just joined the forum. I bought a Samsung Captivate in late Jan 2011. Started having the shut down issue a couple weeks ago and was looking for help when I found the forum. I am begining to wish I would have found the forum when I was researching the purchase. I love the phone, but the shut down thing is heart breaking. This phone is my first experience with Android and so far I am happy. I am hoping the forum will help me find answers, facts and fun things for the Android.

I think there is an app in the Android Market for this problem. Try doing some google searches for this issue...pretty much any issue you might have has already been discussed ad nauseum elsewhere.
Also, root your phone. It will reinstall an entirely new operating system (the ROM) which will probably fix the problem outright.
