Hello, Been an iPhone user since the first one, just switched from a 4 to a Galaxy Nexus.

Was quite happy I would not need to worry about jailbreaking any more, suddenly things start telling me they need a rooted phone... Is that really true..

It really depends on what you want to do. Much of what made jailbreaking an iPhone necessary is easily handled on an Android phone without root. Many Android aficionados run to root new devices, but it is more of a badge of achievement than a necessity.
