HI!/ Question?

Hello! I was attempting to find out how to cancel one of my family's data packages for our Droid 2 phones through VZ (our daughter is old enough to pay for her own.....and she isn't, so-no data plan!), and came across a reference from this site which seemed to say that I may be able to keep wifi and cancel my data plan.....please, GIVE ME INFO! I love my Droid, but paying $120/month between my daughter's and my data plans has become cost-prohibitive!

hi are you sure regarding 'keeping wifi'? are you sure thats what you're asking?

since wi-fi is free if for example used in your own home if you have a wireless router.

If it's a smartphone and an active line it needs to have the data plan, there is no way around that.
You can use an un-activated Android phone with just wi-fi, but with no data at all there would be no "phone" part either.
Verizon will not activate (or allow an activated smartphone) with no data package and just a voice package.

The only way out of paying for the data plan is to have your daughter activate a phone that does not require a data plan. If you are paying the $29.99 for unlimited data and think that you will use 150MB or less you can switch to the $15/month data plan. This would allow you to use wi-fi. You would want to be very careful to avoid over charges.

So if you want to keep the Droid 2 you will have to have either the $15 or $30 plan.
If you want to switch to different phones you can choose one that doesn't have data. You can either activate older phones, buy used ones off ebay/craigslist, or pay full retail for different phones if you are not up for upgrade.
