Nokia is officially getting back into the smartphone game by licensing its name and intellectual property to a new company named HMD Global Oy. Arto Nummela, currently a Microsoft executive and a former Nokia employee will take the CEO position at HMD. The company plans to build smartphone and tablets which run on Android. While Nokia will not have a direct say in what products HMD will create, the company will hold one seat on its board and will collect a licensing fee for every Nokia-branded device that HMD sells.
