Home button not working, notification shade broken

All of a sudden this afternoon, my phone rebooted after doing a Youtube app update. Then after than my launcher home button does nothing, I can't update apps, notifications don't show up in the notification shade and the "Settings" shortcut in the shade doesn't work.

I do still get the notification dots on apps and I can get to settings if I go in the app drawer and go to the Settings app. I did a support chat from my phone and they had me try Safe Mode with no luck still in Safe Mode. The only other thing he said to try was a factory reset. I tried clearing the cache of Google Play Services and rebooting but nothing.

I'm hoping more people are having an issue and Google will have to push a fix. It's such an inconvenience to do a reset. I won't lose anything but there will be plenty of apps I need to re-login to.

Anyone gain any traction on this? Just happened to me this morning. Not sure if I got ahold of some malware or a virus, but I'm have the exact issue described by the OP.
