Help Home page text messaging. The number 1 won't go away.

I get the 1 by the envelope and read the text but the 1 stays there. What am I doing wrong? After I open it it's not going away....

I would recommend doing a battery pull and see if that fixes it. Otherwise maybe send yourself a text and then delete it, see if that clears the notification. Otherwise it's real simple to backup your stuff to Google and just do a factory reset.

Hope one of those options helps. I've had the same thing happen only with a voicemail. It would say I had one but when I called nothing there. Left myself a voicemail, listened, delted it and it went away.

Did a battery pull... did nothing. Did the factory reset. Worked for 24 hours, now it's doing it again. Shows the 1 by the envelope but I have no new texts. Help!

Might not be just counting texts. I don't know what other messengers you have on there, but perhaps emails or google chat etc... are included in that count? Go through all the messaging apps and look for unread texts. I seem to recall having this issue with my old DInc and that was the solution.

No, it's not other accounts --- just text. I've texted myself and this happens. I've read them, the 1 still appears. I've even deleted the whole thread and the 1 is still there. I'm getting pissed. Do I need to return the phone????

still seems like a software issue to me atm. returning phone would be pointless

Yeah going to this "data clear" thing was a HUGE help. Bet this'll solve alot of other little issues too with all the apps :) it just solved my gallery syncing problem..lol if you ever have unwanted photo syncing, I coudnt find any way to freaken delete the pics on my phone!...:) BIG HELP!)

If it's a software issue, wouldn't others have this problem too? I haven't heard anyone else with the text dilemma like me. The only way it clears is if I hold down home and clear the RAM.

Anyone have any other ideas? Keep in mind I came from HTC, so Samsung is very new to me. Am I doing something wrong? Is it supposed to be like this maybe? No software updates have been available yet.

I have had the same issue since getting my sgs3, tried everywhere without luck, then discovered the fix myself....all you need to do is go to settings> developer options>and uncheck (do not keep activities) this must be unchecked, and also make sure limit background processes is set to standard, now problem should be fixed, please if its not brocken dont playwith it, and stop blaming the operating system, its the uneducated user not the phone or software

THANK YOU ASWORLD. I have been reading everywhere to find a fix for the problem. I did exactly what you said and it worked!!!

@ ASWorld - I've done everything you suggest, including a battery pull and it still doesn't work. I am not uneducated about the issue, or the phone, yet this continues to happen. So please, any other snarky suggestions??

ASWORLD THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I was getting frustrated with this and actually had thought about taking the phone back, I've only had it 2 days so far. This solved the problem!

Didn't work for me either (although possibly it will stop a re-occurance). Tried clearing messaging ap and various other things as well to no avail. Then cleared the RAM and sorted it.

hi everyone i just fixed mine, after trying everything i found the way to do this.

Try this
Go to Settings > Application Manager > All applications (on the top). Locate the "BadgeProvider" app, once in there select "clear data"

you need to restart the phone after that apparently.

only other solutions I can find are a factory reset.

I have the same problem and already followed all of the suggestions above, and some worked temporarily and some didn't work at all.

And finally I can solved this issue a couple weeks ago, here's what I did:
> Download "SMS Backup & Restore" on Play Store (it's free)
> After the App installed, open it and back up ll of your SMS (by default it saved to SD Card) by clicking "Back up" button on the app's menu
> After done back up all of your SMS, click "Delete Messages" button on the app's menu
> Go to you Messaging on your phone and make sure all of your text are gone.
> Restore your SMS by clicking "Restore" button on app's menu
> After done restoring, check your messaging on ur phone, and see the "ghost" sms that won't open/read before is now there.. Delete it :)

Tested this on my Galaxy Ace.
GoodLuck!

LM2, thank you so much - I'm so glad I found this forum and your response - nothing else worked or helped.
This worked on my LG G3
