Home screen side slide, what happened??

Hi, I'm new to smart phones and just got my Droid. I got a case for it, ut when I took it out of the case, the "phone dialer, Launcher and contact" icon which had been across the bottom are now suddenly down the right side. Plus the applications tray which had 4 apps across, now has 7 across.

I've tried to change it back to where it was, and even looked in the "Droid for dummies" guide, but cant fine any thing that addresses the issue.

Any body have any ideas?
