Home screen - URL added not one I wanted

When adding a page from Chrome to my home screen, rather than adding the page I'm on in Chrome, what gets added is the home page of the site I'm on. I didn't have this problem with my Galaxy S4, but it's a problem with my S8. Is there some setting that's doing this?

It's going to depend on the URL.

First, when you are on the page you want to bookmark, I assume you hit the menu (three dots, upper right) and select "Add to home screen".

So, let's say you got to https://www.website.com/english/folder/thispage.html. When you add the bookmark, it should include the entire URL. However if it's a dynamic page that might be something like http://www.website.com/home.php?page=thatpage then you may or may not get there from a bookmark. Most of the time it should work, though. Finally, the parameters for the subsequent pages might be hidden in which case no matter what you do, the bookmark will take you to the root URL.
