Help Homescreen crashing when using NovaLauncher

I've recently started using NovaLauncher to help with homescreen lag issues post-jb update. It works great, except for one small thing that's really just a nuisance. I keep getting notifications that homescreen has crashed (randomly- when using other apps it will pop up). Is there a way I can just stop homescreen from running so this doesn't happen? Any other NovaLauncher users having this issue?

I cleared the cache on my phone and wanted to see if the homescreen was working better after doing so, but now I can't use the Homescreen at all. I cleared NovaLauncher as the default app, tap the home button, select Homescreen, and get a "Unfortunately Homescreen has stopped." message- every time.
