Hotmail and its history

I've had a Hotmail address for over two decades, since Hotmail was its own thing. It was one of the very first web-based email clients that wasn't attached to a specific provider. Even now, Microsoft has absorbed Hotmail but my Hotmail address works just fine.

I started with Aholes Outta Luck (AOL) on a 14.4 modem so my email addy (once I figured out what email even was) was from them. Once I got an actual high speed connection I went to Hotmail and have had the same email now since probably the beginning of Hotmail. As I progressed in life and found I needed more email addy's I tried to get another hotmail one but they are a bit sticky to get now because they now use Live instead of Hotmail. If you try to choose a Hotmail addy it nearly always says that addy is already taken. I got lucky because my company name (which I made up) was available but most other ones I tried wouldn't go. And of course I have Yahoo as my junk mailbox for those annoying sites that require an addy to sign up.

I had hotmail, several accounts for Juno, (Ya know that winy b*tch from the movie hahaaa) had that for a long time, but as time progressess, i wanted also a web builder server, switched to yahoo for now a super long time, had this only for business account (i.e. psn, also one for the bowling arena down here) for a long while...

I have seen a lot of folks get their yahoo emails hacked. That is why I only use it strictly for junk email addy's

Certainly had one or two of these in the 90s. They were the first email not attached to a provider, so you knew you were safe to jump provider to provider in the dial-up days to gain the fastest, most reliable connection with out loosing your email everytime.!

It was used a lot for the then new msn messenger. Which was of course cool until the spammers got hold of it, not only with messages but also dodgy downloads to add extra "cool" emotes.

It was your go-to email client for creating what ever email name you wanted. Sadly being able to create multiple anonymous email addresses was its main downfall as websites and companys started blocking anyone with a Hotmail address, and thus the slow death begun as people moved away from the once great Hotmail. o_O
