Hotmail + seven app is a massive drain on battery

My battery life has been really poor since jelly bean update and when i checked battery stats using gsam battery monitor it showed that the microsoft +seven hotmail app is a massive drain on battery, wakelocks show it is almost constantly pulling power. So i uninstalled it and set up the stock email app, did this yesterday morning and now 24 hours later i still have 37% battery left so well pleased. One thing i found however was the stock app email screen would dim after a short period of time, this then carried over into all screens when i exited email and normal brightness adjustments would not fix it. It turned out the power saving mode for the phone has a background colour setting and this kicks in for stock email app for some reason, so disabling that one setting fixed problem. Found several other postings highlighting the issue with the hotmail app.
