Help Hotspot shortcut on home screen in Jelly Bean

Hi All,

I know this topic has been done to death but all the answers relate to Ice Cream Sandwhich.

I have just got the S3 4G on JellyBean. Now when I add the settings widget I cannot select "tethering and portable hotspot" it is not available.

Ie. these instructions no longer work. http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-support-troubleshooting/548532-portable-hotspot-shortcut.html

I have tried a few 3rd party plugins but some don't work with jellybean and others just aren't doing what I want.

So how can I add a shortcut to the hotspot page in the settings from my home screen in JellyBean?

What network/carrier are you on? I think some of them block access to tethering unless you pay extra (or something similar)

I'll move this to the main S3 forum so more people can see and hopefully give you an answer

This can be done either by an alternative launcher (launcher pro allows shortcuts to practically all services/settings pages) or with the Elixir 2 app. With Elixir 2 you can add a strip of toggled/info buttons to your notification area OR as a widget on your home screen, can be configured as a horizontal / vertical /single /block widget depending how many toggles/shortcuts you want displayed.

5th down on left is the wifi hot spot toggle.

Thanks for your responses guys.

This is not a problem with hotspot or tethering being available (it works), I just wanted a shortcut to the settings for my home screen as I use it a lot.

I have finally found an app which does just what I wanted and works with Jelly Bean. For anyone else who needs a similar shortcut, it is called "Wifi Hotspot Settings".

You are a star, that app works perfectly.

Typical that with the JB "upgrade" they remove what must be one of the most used short-cuts from the operating system!!

The one I'm using is a Hotspot toggle widget. It doesn't take you to the settings, it actually turns it on with one press then turns it off with another press. I'm not sure if that is what your looking for, but some might be looking for it so here it is.
