Hotspot tethering app?

AndrewME

Hello all. I have a galaxy S4 which didn't come with a pre installed hotspot and/or tethering app. I'd like some app recommendations so my kid cam tether his Galaxy Tab Pro to my phone so he has Internet access when we are on the road. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a hotspot or tethering app? The app store has dozens of possibilities but everyone that I have spot checked has a very low rating. ..Thanks for your input.

Since nobody else answered, I'll take a stab based on my experience.

Whether or not you're officially "allowed" to implement hotspot functionality depends on your service provider & your service plan. For example, with my old unlimited Sprint plan, Sprint wanted to charge me about $30/month for hotspot capability. (Though since my phone was rooted, and I wasn't willing to pay $30/month I was able to enable Hotspot capability using apps like PDANet+, FoxFi, Hotspot Widget, or WiFi Tether). With my new Sprint plan (and Galaxy S5) Hotspotting is allowed for "free" (within the limits of your data plan) and it's built into the S5's settings. I think most modern plans allow hotspotting, because the carriers want you to use and buy more data.

According to the instructions at the following link, Hotspot also seems to be built-into the Galaxy S4. But again, it may depend on your service provider and service plan. If you don't have an unlimited data plan, be careful that your son doesn't go over your plan's data allowance (or else you may want to upgrade your data plan).
