Hotspot vs Wifi Tethering

I rooted my phone (Synergy ROM) and installed the Wifi Tether for Root Users. Some days it works fine, some days not at all. This morning I turned on the "Hotspot" tab and it works fine so far. What I don't know is, what's the difference between using the Hotspot versus using the Wifi Tether?

I am on the unlimited Data plan through Verizon.

In that app, no idea. Wifi hotspot is wifi tethering however.
