How Can I Find an IP Address For A FB Account?

So, I Received a FB message from a friend of mine that informed me that there was a Creeper Who hard messaged her with a Bogus Claim of who They Are & What Their Reason For Contacting Her Was... The Claim Of Who They Are (By Their Claimed Job Title), Makes Them Guilty Of Felony Offense. This message to my friend was not the only message received from this FB Account Making The Same Claim. My Fiance Also Received A Similar Message, The Message He Got Made The Same Claim Of Job Title. I Contacted Police, However they told me there was not much they could do with an IP Address & that if I could locate the IP Address then I Would Be Able To Do Something about the stalking and harassment... My guess is that locating the IP isn't often done... But that it's easy if you know where to look. PLEASE HELP ME!!
 
I'm pretty sure you can't and FB keeps that sort of data private AFAIK. FB itself can see IP addresses for accounts though, which they might make available to law-enforcement etc, for criminal investigations, evidence, etc. But if the "creeper" is using a VPN or proxy or TOR or public WiFi, etc, it won't be their own IP address anyway. For myself, FB never knows my real IP address, because I'm always using a VPN just so I can access it.

No, you guess wrong. I don't think there is any way you can find the IP address. Facebook may keep a record of the IP address that the message originated from, but I doubt it will be easy to get them to give it up. In fact I'll be amazed if they'll give it to you - I'd think they should co-operate with the police, but wouldn't be surprised if they were not actively helpful even then.

Ok. So I thought when I was told this that if it WERE so easy there wouldn't be a Hit TV Show Called Catfish. So, then.. when it comes to this issue... I reported the account to FB and explained in Detail What The User Of The Account Had Done. There was "an investigation into the issue" was the response I got from them. If you ask me, nothing was done. Profile is still active. Also, I didn't have the messages and they were already deleted by both recipients. However, the girls ex husband received a fb FB message from the same account about a month and a half later over something different and the account yet claimed to be a mother at his sons school. Also, the picture used on the account is easily proven to be owned by another person and I sent proof of that to FB for review and nothing. The person behind the account is attempting to portray me as a very bad person in the eyes of my hometown and the other parents of the school my children attend. There must be something I can do to stop this..!?

Go to the police I think.

I use FB myself, but I know for a fact that FB just does NOT know my real IP address, and actually would be impossible FB to find it, because I'm using a VPN otherwise FB is blocked here. Also my VPN provider(ExpressVPN) doesn't keep logs.
 
If criminal activity is being done, or someone is being threatened then they should report it.

Even if it was possible, Facebook or any service should never give that information to you as a third party. That would be extremely dangerous.


If that doesn't work they should contact the police.
 
Facebook has privacy settings, make sure you are set for friends and family only, not set for public!
That way you'll never see posts from strangers in your feed.

This person (the actual person) is not a stranger. I babysat for her just before she started sending these messages to my friends and fiance and I contacted the police and they told me that without an IP Address that they were unable to make an arrest and that they were not permitted to access information about anyone without proof of criminal behavior or a warrant from a judge. I contacted fb and nothing was done. I called the police back and told them that I know they need a warrant or proof of some kind of criminal misconduct but that the messages had been deleted so I didn't have them anymore but that THIS PERSON WHO SENT THE MESSAGES STATED THAT THEY WERE A GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL AND REQUESTED INFORMATION ABOUT ME AS WELL AS MADE STATEMENTS TO THESE PEOPLE AND I'M UNAWARE EVEN OF WHO ELSE THEY MADE THESE FALSE CLAIMS AND STATEMENTS TO ABOUT ME AND WHO KNOWS WHO ELSE AND NO O DON'T HAVE THE MESSAGES BUT I HAVE THE ACCOUNT FOR YOUR TO LOOK UP FOR YOURSELF AND THERE'S BLIND TO BE PROOF FROM THE ACCOUNT... BUT THE COPS INSISTED THAT BECAUSE IT'S ON THE INTENDIN ANDI HAVE NO WAY TO PROVE THE USER IS WHO I SAY IT IS THAT MY ONLY OPTION IS TO IBRAHI AN ★IP★ ADDRESS :-( :'(

Right! When I reported the account. Fb blocked me from the account. However it's still active. And the person behind the account is still contacting people pretending to be a government official and claiming that I'm a child abuser... However, I cannot pinpoint a particular recipient who has 1 of the messages. Only hearsay from a few old classmates who still live here in my hometown and I am betting told that I am pretty much up the creek because it's the internet and I am unable to Prove✓✓ what this person has done and unable to prove that the person *I KNOW* is behind the profile, is truly the user :-/ it's ridiculous that this is unstoppable! If we all had known when the first messages were sent them nobody works have deleted them. They just thought it was BS and wouldn't go any further... But it had!!! Way further!!

Also, she stiffed me for 6 months of babysitting and flipped ito when I refused to babysit for her anymore because she was taking advantage of me and continuing to lie to me about why she wasnt able to pay and kept giving me didn't dates down the road of when she'd be able to get the money to pay me. However I have 4 kids of my own so I couldn't keep trying to take care of all 7 children and paying for meals. This infuriates her. Also, she specifically started claiming i abuse my oldest child (a step daughter, who is 16 years old) {{this was specifically to keep eyes off her as the account holder while at the same time orchestrating a story that would allow her to cover her reputation over or particular ordeal over babysitting}} ★★I am aware of the Pettiness in all of this... So please remember, this is entirely get logic and behavior★★ HOWEVER, CLAIMING TO BE A "CHILDPROTECTIVE CASEWORKER WHO IS DOING FOLLOW-UP ON REPORTS OF CHILD ABUSE BY *ME*" →ThisType Of A Claim And Portrayal Has A Way Of Sticking In The Back Of A Persons Mind, And Those Who Don't Know Me, Have No Reason To •Observe 1st, Judge 2nd• So I'm Constantly Fighting An Unjustified, Seemingly Impossible Battle And With What The Cops Have Told Me And The Nothing That Facebook Did To Help And Without A Way To Obtain An IP Address... My only Choice it too deal with it being a part of my life or move away and rid myself and my family from it... But, we can't afford to move and my family doesn't deserve the rumors or judging looks

Also she's contacted my step daughter on FB and Attempted to pinpoint her at school events and functions when she believed we were not present, even after being asked and even told by us to stay away from our family, especially and specifically our children and she refuses to ATLEAST yield to our request to stay clear of our children ALWAYS
 
I agree. Your proper course of action is to document these incidents as best you can and use the legal system to stop it. It is a very bad idea to look for remedy in a public forum from strangers. This is not a legal forum, nor do we have any influence over Facebook. Since this all seems to be happening through FB, then that's the place where it needs to be addressed. We really can't do anything for you except to tell you we can't do anything for you.

Hello Leah.

Police are correct when they said they cant do much with an IP address. However they didn't tell you that they could easily approach the ISP and ask them details about the IP address and to whom it was assigned. Provided the IP is not masked or the user is not using VPN.

If you haven't found out the IP address yet, refer to this guide:

In the above guide, just follow the steps provided by the author and once you get the IP, Check the tracking part in the same article.

remember when you get the IP address of the user, It will also mention which phone or computer he is using and also carrier information. This becomes very easy when the culprit is one of your friends of family member as you can easily guess who is using that phone.
