How can I get around the fee?

I hope this is the right spot for this. I have an LG Dare. I want to switch to the droid, but I do not want to pay $30 a month per line since I have 2 lines for the data plan. I right now have unlimited data for my phone for $10 a month per line. It seems like it would make sense that if I get a verizon droid off eBay then it should be able to do everything it needs to do using the unlimited data and email plan I have. Am I right in saying that? If so, how would I best go about this? Would I need to get an unlocked phone that will work on verizon's network, and if so, why must it be unlocked? $30 a month just seems like price gouging for something I already have, I just need to upgrade my phone, and I'm sure SOMEONE out there has tried this. Can anyone help?

Thank you.

Welcome to the forums :)

Unfortunately there is absolutely NO way to get around having a smartphone data plan with VZW...... no matter where you get the phone from.... however.... they do now offer a cheaper plan for those that dont want to pay $30 for unlimited..... IIRC its something like $15/150Mb

uuummmm how do you have unlimited data fo $10 a month now?

and there is no way around a data plan.

droids ude data. its best to get the unlimited

The $10 unlimited data is no longer an option on Verizon phones. You can keep that price as long as you continue to use your Dare or older multimedia phones. However, any smartphone requires a minimum 150 MB data plan for $15 a month. I would not recommend that with the Droid.
The reason that the older multimedia phones had $10 pricing is that they didn't use the large amounts of data that the newer smartphones and 3G phones do.

Yeah, my $10 unlimited data/email is a grandfathered plan. I also have unlimited text/sms messaging, which it looks like they no longer offer. Verizon has the best service I have used, but they are some price gouging bitches. I would get 2 droids, but I'm not going to add $60 to my bill just to have them. That's more than I pay for my home internet service. I know I get a lot with it, but that's not worth it to me, especially considering I'd have to change my text plan too, which is a bunch of shit. I guess I'll have to stick with my old phones for now.

Sounds good, but I need about 700 minutes. Besides, it doesn't say if smartphones are covered and I would still need to buy 2 droids at a cheap price.

for 2 smartphones its 129.99 a month
unlimited data, unlimited texting, 1400minutes, 10 friends and family numbers

19.99 for each additional phone unlimited texting/data - must be a smartphone

i just added it, and upgraded 1 line to a smartphone, other already was

Will they let me buy droids at the promo rate though? I think right now they have the X for $300 before a $100 MIR and you get a second for free.

as long as your elgible for an upgrade on both lines. again its what i just did, but iwent for the fsacinate with a d2 as a bogo

best thing to do is call a csr and see, or skip right to retentions per the post i linked. they make more concessions for longtime customers with a good payment history. rack up 10-15 years and they really like you

I have about 9-10 years but I'm not eligible for an upgrade on my phone until February, and for some reason they only let me do new every two one my main line, even though it's a family plan. I'll have to see what I can work out.

only the primary line on a family plan can get the ne2 cash, but all can do upgrades for the upgrade price at the correct time, your online account should tell you when for each line

at least thats whats ive always heard/been told/experienced

Is this different than the promo plan on their site now? The only one I'm familiar with is the $139.99 plan that doesn't include text.

However, I'd be happy to go for $129.00 with text. Gotta get on that one! Worth a try right?

i was wrong is 139.99
cant upload the flyer its wrong size, and no software here to resize, darn work pc
