Help How can I lock my screen without turning it off?

Notcow

It's crazy, but I cannot find an app which locks my screen WITHOUT turning it off. Optimally, what I would like is for the phone to be able to enter the "lock screen," but without going into standby mode. This is because entering standby mode cancels any ongoing automated tasks, which I need to occur on the lockscreen.

Alternatively, an app that would wake the phone up immediately upon sleeping would be a good secondary option. If that app requires that I do some kind of motion to unlock it, that's no good - I need the phone to be able to wake itself up with no prompting from me.

If it costs money that's fine. I do just really want a program by this specification. My phone's a rooted Sprint Galaxy S3, if that's relevant. Thanks for any help!

Welcome to Android Forums.

I normally don't use a screen lock. I tried it fort you.

I set a screen lock. I always run with Tasker monitoring the Proximity Sensor and when it is covered it invokes a System Lock.

I started playing an alum (Leonard Cohen's I'm Your Man) under Power Amp and covered the proximity sensor. The screen locked and the music continued. I entered the pattern and the screen was unlocked. The music continued.

So ... apparently ... Tasker System Lock.

Hey, thanks for your reply.

I just want to clarify, you're saying that this program Tasker System Lock is capable of:

1)Locking the screen
2)NOT turning the screen off

I'll check it out, but it seems like you're saying you need to cover up the sensor, which makes it difficult to work with. I'd prefer if it were just widget that you click with the touchscreen --> then screen locks. the fact that it requires some physical input makes it difficult to automate. But I'll check it out, thank you.

Edit: It seems that this program is not capable of locking the device while leaving the screen on. Additionally, it does not support the "Turn on" feature on my version of Android (4.2+)

Edit2: I found a solution to my problem by using a combination of programs including Tasker. Your reply was very helpful to me, I really appreciate it. Thanks!
