Help How can I restore default Phone, Contact, Messaging, Internet and Apps icons to homepage?

mitcheca

Lurker
Non rooted Galaxy S3
Model GT-19300
Android Version 4.3, updates no longer available.

Somehow I had two of each of the default Phone, Contact, Messaging, Internet and Apps icons at the bottom of each and every page. I have removed duplicates of all bar the Apps icon, which now overlays the Messaging icon.

However the only one that now works is the Apps icon that overlays the Messaging icon, non of the others work.

How can I edit this section of each page to delete inactive icons and then restore working versions of each?

Good thing there's still that Apps icon, and it's still functional, since you'll need it to clean up the other app icons. If it's just sitting on your Home screen you'll want to drag and drop it into your bottom launcher so Apps is accessible on every screen.
-- AFIK the default bottom launcher for TouchWiz in JB 4.3 will only hold five icons so pick the apps you feel like you want showing on every screen, and then drag and drop the five you use the most. When there's already five icons in the launcher and you add another one it'll just swap one of the existing icons onto whichever screen is showing.
-- On each screen press and hold on each icon you want to delete (the screen will change contextually and you can drag the icon to the Trash Can that pops up).
-- To add just the icons you want on each specific screen just open up Apps and 'press and hold' on each app icon (the screen will again change contextually) and 'drag and drop' it onto the screen. Arrange your icons on each screen using 'press and hold' and just drag them around.
-- To alter your screen, on any page use two fingers and swipe them inwards (press them down and move them together). The screen will again contextually change so you see mini representations of all your screens. TouchWiz defaults to maximum of seven screens. If all seven of your screens aren't filled up with app icons you can can move them around to consolidate on specific screens and then just delete the empty screen(s) so instead of swiping left and right to access a particular screen, you might be able to get by with just five of them. To delete a screen just drag and drop it into the Trash Can. When you have less than seven screens there will be a big + icon showing so you can always just add a screen back. In this contextual page you can also alter which screen is your 'Home' screen. Each mini screen will have a little blue or grey arrow graphic in the upper right, your Home screen is blue and all the others are grey. If you want to make a different screen the default Home screen tap on that little arrow graphic.
