How can I Sync eBooks between PC and Android?

iSLaND7

Newbie
Hi,

What I want to do is to sync my ebooks between my Laptop(Win 7), Work PC(XP) and my android phone (ICS). I want to read anywhere and get same things at all places.

I want full functions like reading positions, bookmarks, highlights sync.

I think Moon + Pro has got dropbox sync, but how to read those on PC?
I think a seperate reader to read .mobi/.epub/.prc files is needed on PC with dropbox sync feature. I can't think this with PDF files.

Google Books allows only their books. I have lots of other books.

Any Ideas?

Aldiko Sync

* Android 2.1+ * Aldiko 2.0.2+ (Premium or Free) * Rooted device (Aldiko 2.2.0+) * Dropbox account

Features:

* Synchronizes eBooks across devices (including addition of new books and deletion of old books) * Synchronizes your position in each eBook across devices. * Pro Version: Fully automatic sync. * Pro Version: Faster sync check for changes on Dropbox. * Pro Version: Trigger sync from an external application (like a Tasker/Locale plugin). * Ability to store deleted books in a separate "TrashCan" folder on Dropbox in case you want to retrieve it at a later date. * Ability to always sync to furthest read point (like the Kindle)

Current Limitations:

* User defined bookmarks are not synced across device.

I provided a Web link for this software below:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ucr.aldikosync&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS51Y3IuYWxkaWtvc3luYyJd

Or search the title of the software on your Google Play store

Typed out using SwiftKey, only available for Android ツ :thrasher:

Hi, :smokingsomb: i haven't used this program or any eBook readers, but I wl guess that what they do is upload a version of the eBook file to Dropbox from the phone which has the current bookmark and last page read information etc.

Then I think you have to download that whole version from Dropbox onto the PC and then repeat the process in reverse to update it on your phone

I have the same question! (got here googling how to do it actually).

All I can say is I bought Moon+ Pro, it syncs with Google Drive and Dropbox, but no PC reader I could find :-(

not true. in fact i have not a single google book, yet my play books is loaded with sideloaded epubs.

not sure where you got that idea
Right google book let you add your own epub/pdf BUT the search feature (quite crucial) will be unavailable...

I think Mobogenie can help with that.

I'm not sure that Mobogenie would actually help in this case - and it's a sort of sleezeware that probably isn't wanted anyway.

Does it have an eBook-syncing feature that I'm not aware of?

I've got a handful of epub-formatted books that I added (and synced) via Google Play Books. I'll double-check in a bit, but I don't remember them having problems with searching.

PDFs do have that limitation, though, since they get rendered as images rather than text.

Yes, it has. There is a Books section.

However, this site should I remove it is really b*******t. I'm sure that you will find your favorite program there too. So it's not a very reliable source.

P.S. I tried to download mobogenie with Chrome, but Google blocks it, because it doesn't have enough info about it. So I download it from [mod redacted]

Good luck.

^I've removed the link, based on the link CS provided, the fact that Chrome blocks it and I just found one app that's free on MG, but costs money on Play, I'd encourage everyone to give Mobogenie a very wide berth.

Anyhoo, on topic, I can back up what CS is saying, epbubs and mobi files you've synced yourself are searchable in Play Books. :)

OK, No problem. ******* is definitely a good app

FYI it's from China, which means it's NOT regulated and curated unlike Google or Amazon. There's often apps for "free" on there that are paid apps on Google or Amazon, i.e. they're pirated. Also there's no control over what sort of ad and privacy practises take place, where apps have been modified by third-parties, and have had undesirable adware and spyware payloads added to them, i.e. trojans. Be aware of things like 1M***** and Mob******t as well, also Chinese.

FBReader works almost anywhere but it uses Google drive rather than Dropbox. Has its own network and a plugin for Calibre.

Windows, Android, Mac, Linux, Blackberry

I don't think mobogenie is one of those apps, you've mentioned. I'm not a China software development fan as well, but it doesn't mean they can create a good application. FYI there are only a few software programs our there, which don't come with some adware. Even big software comes with adware. The common case is when you install an antivirus program and it comes along with a registry booster. (And the antivirus is not developed in China). So please let's not be offensive towards any countries.

I know about them.. aka...Beijing Gamease Technology Co., Ltd. They're distributing pirated Gameloft products, amongst many other things. Google Play and Amazon are the only authorized distributors for Gameloft, and officially they don't even distribute their products in China.

There's adware of the nice sort which might be banner ads or the occasional popup within the app, and only show when the app itself is running, and adware of the not so nice sort, when you find you're getting unwanted push ad notifications, browser is hijacked, random popup ads, ads placed on your home-screen, hidden premium rate SMS, etc. And it's the latter that Google and Amazon specifically prohibits from their app stores, and they check for it as well. And there can be a spyware aspect as well to much of this stuff.

That's why we do not recommend getting your apps from outside of the official distribution channels, e.g. only getting your Gameloft, EA and Glu games from Google or Amazon.

I can be as offensive as I like against the Android situation in China, I live here. :D ...and I make it my interests to look at and study these things. Look at my sig. :)
