How can I test if my phone uses a 2D camera or an IR laser dot projector?

How can I test if my phone uses a 2D camera or an IR laser dot projector and flood illuminator for face unlock? Would trying to use it in the dark be a way to know it?

Take a photo of it while in use - phone cameras are generally sensitive to IR (e.g. if my phone's IR focus assist is on and I photograph something reflective I can see it in the photo).

But most use dumb cameras. So the other way is to tell us what phone it is and maybe someone will know.

It's the Motorola G7 Play

I don't know, but that's a budget phone so I'd suspect it will use a less sophisticated solution. Fingerprint scanner should be more secure anyway and probably faster (I never see the lock screen on my phone as I just touch the scanner as I pick it up - by the time it could start scanning my face it is unlocked already).

Well it doesn't work in the dark.

Fingerprints do though ;)

Fingerprints also work when you're wearing a mask as well. :thumbsupdroid:
