How can I trace the dreaded htc.bgp issue to a missing or faulty process?

I've researched thoroughly, and can't figure this out. I recently rooted --no problem. But must have removed an app that I shouldn't have (though I used a few different lists as a guideline). I've also done a clear cache from the recovery mode, as I've heard that this sometimes helps.

Can anyone suggest a source of information--logs, config files, etc.--that might help me trace this problem to its source?
