Help How can I transfer Whatsapp's chat and media from iPhone to Pixel??

I backed up my Whatsapp to iCloud from my iPhone but I can't find a way to transfer all my chats and media to my new Pixel phone.

Does anybody know how to do this?

What if you just sign in to WhatsApp on the new phone? Can't you download stuff from WhatsApp's servers?

(I've not used it for very long, but when I added the companion app to my laptop it loaded all of my chats and has download links for all media, so I'm expecting that signing in on a new phone will do the same).

Unfortunately, Whatsapp doesn't allow that when migrating from iOS to Android.

I've tried that but it doesn't work. All my chats are completely empty.

I know that Whatsapp allows to restore backups from Google Drive but I haven't found a way to backup to Google Drive using an iPhone.

And iCloud is of course an Apple thing.

Do you still have the iPhone? A web search turned up some proposals for transferring backups (such as this), but they weren't iCloud backups. Whether any of them actually work I don't know (never owned an iPhone, and I don't know whether my daughter bothered transferring chats when she moved from iOS to Android - she's not around for me to ask at the moment anyway).
