Is there a rooted version of Lollipop i can install on my 2012 Nexus 7 my nexus 7 is currently rooted and has andorid 4.4.4

Just wondering if i can find a rooted version of Lollipop to install on my Nexus 7 (20212) and not loose my root?

or

Do i have to download Andorid 5.0.2 which will probably unroot my phone then REROOT my phone with something?

I would prefer to just find a ROOTED version of Android Lollipop but whatever needs to be done to achieve this goal is necessary though

The Nexus 7's hardware doesn't cope well with Lollipop, seriously, I made the mistake of having upgraded my N7 to Lollipop and I always feel that it has lost half of its power. I had to remove all additional user accounts or it will stop working properly. My once favourite game Infinite Flight can open but I don't have the same smoothness like before.

You can use WUGs rootkit to do this and more. You can use it to download the version of Android you want to install, and it will root (or unroot) the device too. Lots of other options. No need to do command line stuff with ADB, etc. You can also run BACKUP and/or RESTORE.

I'm currently using CyanogenMod 12.1 (Lollipop 5.1.1 based) and my N7 2012 works fine. You can install this if you have a custom recovery installed. Otherwise I'd agree about Lollipop, it's a bit much for the N7 2012's hardware, but the CM version I'm using seems to work pretty good.

There are versions based on older Android too:

CM-12.1 = 5.1.1
CM-12 = 5.0
CM-11 = 4.4.x
CM-10.2 = 4.3.x (this one would be optimum, but still out of date, for N7 2012)
CM-10.1 = 4.2.x
CM-10 = 4.1.x
