How can I write on my screen shots?

JohnJSal

Android Expert
I just took a couple of screenshots and then through the notification pull down I chose "Edit" and it let me use a photo editor (which seems to be default on the S7) to write on the first screenshot.

But I wanted to write on the second one instead, but I didn't see a way to switch them. So I went to the pictures in the Photos app but I didn't see a way to edit them with that app (Photo Editor?) there.

So how do I do this? Clearly this is possible, but I can't find the app to do it.

Thanks!

Open in gallery, tap or long press image, select edit and select one of the options there.

I have tried that before, you can edit the toning, background, etc... but there isn't an option to let you type text, or use a pencil to draw over it.

Oh ok i thought you meant cam photos, yea edit a pic in the gallery the new saved pic should then get saved up to the cloud/google photos. Not tried that though.

Slight Thread hijack....
Is there an easy way to draw on the screenshot. Like circle something like we could with the note?

Take a screenshot, open in the gallery, edit, the square/crop option, draw. Circle away!

Yes. You just do it with a finger instead of the S Pen.

As a side note, Google Photos is one of the first things I disable on my Phones. I find it pretty redundant with decreased functionality anyway.

Yeah, I'm kind of wondering what use it has since I still need Gallery to do things too.

Yeah there was an edit option in the pull down notification after I took a screenshot. It let me do it from there, but only for the last screenshot taken.

Thank You. I've been using Quickpic and didn't think of the Stock Gallery App!!

Where are you backing up your photos to the cloud then? dropbox, samsung? Personally i like google photos, just works for me.
I backup to OneDrive.

Google photos is basically a redundant app. It's an app you need to be active to backup to Google, and is also a gallery. But you already have a Gallery app. Since I don't really use Google Drive, just Dropbox and OneDrive, It's something that's a waste for me. If you backup to Google, then use it by all means if you like it. I just find it a hassle to arrange and clean up. At least on OneDrive and Dropbox, the photo files appear as actual files in your PC and easier to arrange into folders or whatnot using the standard PC or Mac interface, without having to use a web browser or anything.

I'm looking into styli that let you edit freehand and an interesting thing I've learned is that most of them require a keyboard with a handwriting setting.

I've been watching videos lately where the guy or girl manipulates the screen, opens apps and draws around the interesting bits regardless of whether or not the phone came with a stylus.

I'd like to be able to do that. Then all I'd have to do is take a screenshot of the result.

Horses for courses i guess chanchan, Onedrive is space limited in comparison to Google, but i hear what you are saying about the maintenance/layout etc.

Also I might be wrong but i think onedrive only backs up your cam photos auto, whereas google photos backs up all folders in the gallery.

Ok 1drive does backup any folder, been trying it, hate it :) too slow, clunky, i actually like checking and scrolling through backed up images on Google Photos, nearly as much as using quickpic or the gallery. You fail chanchan :D

1. I have 115GB on OneDrive. So it's space is not something I'm worried about.

2. Never bothered to scroll through the backed up pics. They're backups. I manage backups on my PC. Just tried it now. I don't find it any slower than Google Photos, when viewing backups.

3. Delete QuickPic as soon as possible. It's made by Cheetah Mobile.

There are those who are dismissive and even disdainful of Google Photos but the undeniable fact of the matter is Android just does not have a comprehensive, centralized back up solution like Apple/iOS does with iTunes and iCloud. Too many Android users are losing irretrievable, irreplaceable photos and videos because they mistakenly a) just assume that enabling the 'Backup' option in their Settings includes personal data like photos, and/or b) rely on their phone to just always be available but in reality they do get stolen, misplaced, damaged, or the OS becomes corrupted. Google Photos also makes it easier to transfer accounts from one phone to the next, almost seamlessly. So go ahead and keep trashing it, it's definitely not the perfect, full featured photo library manager, but it is a viable replacement for the default Gallery app and for those who don't have any kind of back up solution it takes care of that very important need.
