How can one Sync Gmail Contacts in Real Time to Local HDD

Lurker
I have a Samsung Galaxy 5 and it has the latest Android 2.2.1.
I am using Google Chrome and Gmail.
I have Created a Google Account and Synced All My Contacts ( Over 1000 of them ) to the Phone.
What Concerns me is , if I was to Loose My Internet Connection, Then I would be Unable to View My Contacts.
I am aware of the procedure of how to Export Gmail Contacts.
What I would like is a Real Time Sync to Local HDD or Memory Card of my Gmail Contacts.
I would be Pleased to hear any suggestions.

You will not loose your contacts from the phone with or without an internet connection. Turn your radio off and test and see that your contacts remain on the phone.

Thanks ( chrstdvd ), I just Removed my Sim Card and Powered back on, and all my contacts are there.
Now thats all good and well on my mobile phone But How can I achieve the same thing on my Office PC, where I spend most of my time.
Back to my mobile, Where are the Contacts Stored Locally,And can they be stored on a Micro SD Memory Card in the Phone.
By the way you said turn my radio off, what do you mean, I did read somewhere that my mobile has an fm radio, but I have never looked for it or used it.
Thanks.
John

By radio I mean ur 3g connection. Go into airplane mode. On-the-job computer U can import ur contacts from google into outlook or into a comma seperated file. That is kinda useless though. I do not have contacts on computer. I compose allmail from gmail in browser or from my phone.
