Help How can Roaming be set to off - but not off?

I recently took a trip to another country and purposefully switched my data roaming off at the airport before the plane took off by settings-mobile networks- data roaming -off. But I was still charged for 24 x 30KB "packets" of data over a 6 day period. Is there another setting to disable roaming data I should have switched as well or instead of?

Did you use the phone at all? Send SMS and the like?

Yep, I used voice, sms and wifi only, but definitely no mms or roaming data.

Well technically SMS are sent as data. The only difference is that carriers made a difference. They don't count SMS data as 'data' under their terminology. So are you also being billed for the usage of calls and sms or just this data?

International roaming SMS are usually charged for sending and receiving them, so that's possibly what the 24 x 30KB "packets" is. Think you'll have to check with your carrier about it, find what their roaming tariffs are and how they're itemised and billed, for calls and SMS.
