how do I add an app

I have an SGH-i577 S/G/E. I want to add some apps, but can not get past the screen where I connect to an existing or add a new account. None of my existing accounts can "access the server". When I try to add a NEW account, none of my proposed user names are accepted. I have an excellent WiFi connection to a local router, which works in using e-mail.

If you can sign-in to your accounts on other devices/PC, especially on the same WI-FI network, I'd contact GOOGLE :

Also, can you sign-in to other (people's) accounts on your device?
Might wanna try this before contacting GOOGLE or SAMSUNG, getting as much troubleshooting out of the way beforehand will speed up the problem solving process exponentially.
