How do I add notifications to contact's birthdays in Google Calendar?

Without having to add notifications to each one. I figured out how to add a calendar for all my contacts birthdays so that they automatically show up in my calendar (some of them even twice for some reason) but I see no option to add notifications to these. Someone on the forum helped me add the contacts birthday calendar and mentioned he had a 3-day advance notification in case he forgot to get them a gift. I don't see an option to do this and searches say Google doesn't have this function yet but he seemed to know what he was talking about so does anyone know how to do this?

So you have added the birthdays calendar in google calendar right? now in the calendar on the phone goto menu, more, my calendars and check it to show. Then go to a birthday and click on it and you can add a reminder just like any other calendar entry.

No, I know how to do that and like I said, I'm not looking to do this individually for ALL of my contacts. Has to be a way to do it for the calendar so it covers all of them including new contacts that I add in the future. I keep hearing how wonderful the Google calendar is and how advanced it is yet it seems to be missing some very basic functionality that most other mobile phone calendars have.
