How do I change icons using ADW icon pack without using the entire theme?

Hello all,
I am new to smartphones having just picked up a Thunderbolt. I have been entirely impressed with the knowledge on this forum. I apologize if this question has been answered, but I was not able to find specifically what I was looking for.

I have some wallpapers I want to use but have found some ADW themed icons I want to use for the home screens. The ADW icon pack says they only work with ADW. I don't have a home replacement app yet and don't mind buying ADW. But I only want the icons. Can I use the icons only with my own wallpaper, and if so,how would I do that? Or is it an "all or nothing" with the use of the theme?

Try the free version of ADW first. A long press on your home screen will let you select custom shortcut, this will let you change your icons to anything you like.
 
adw ex. that's how i do it. long press what ever app you want on your homescreen then edit. click the icon then select adw themes. select which theme then find the desired icon !
 
The paid for version allows u to change the icons, main dock, and theme all separately under the theme preferences
