Disabling will also stop update requests.
The problem is presumably some apps that are pre-installed and can't be disabled. They should really only prevent disabling for vital apps, but I've known manufacturers, and especially carriers, do it for pure bloat as well. In which case there's nothing you can do without rooting the phone.
(There are some Samsung-specific non-root package disablers, but not owning a Samsung I can't tell you anything about those other than that I've heard they exist).
